While negotiation and UN talks take place, Israel continues to intensify its attacks on the people of Gaza. Regardless of what happens in the coming days, Israel's war on the people of Palestine will continue. This war of occupation must be stopped. Israel must be bought to account for the war crimes it has committed.
Since the beginning of the Israeli bombing of Gaza on 27 December followed by the ground invasion on 3 January, over 1000 Palestinian people have been slaughtered, including over 330 children. Over 5100 Palestinian have been injured.
On 15 January Israel shelled the Tal El-Hawa hospital where 500 people were sheltering. The Israelis also bombed a UN compound in Gaza City, where around 700 Palestinians were sheltering, setting fire to warehouses of badly-needed food and medical aid. In both attacks they used white phosphorous shells- a banned substance which sends a shower of burning material to the ground, where it causes painful chemical burns if it lands on the skin. John Ging, the director of United Nations Relief and Works Agency operations in Gaza told media "They are phosphorus fires so they are extremely difficult to put out because, if you put water on, it will just generate toxic fumes and do nothing to stop the burning".
The attacks on Gaza's 1.5 million civilian populations come on top of Israeli imposed siege designed to strangle the life out of the Palestinian people by denying them adequate fuel, food, medical supplies and power.
